Umwelt Supports the Voice
Umwelt welcomes the approaching Referendum on 14 October as a once-in-a-generation chance to build a more inclusive society and enhance the lives of Indigenous Australians.
Umwelt fully supports the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first peoples of our nation. We support the inclusion of a Constitutional right for First Nations people to provide advice to Parliament about matters that affect their lives, through the Voice.
We are proud to join a large community of businesses and organisations who support the Yes vote.
Our Board and Executive believe that supporting Constitutional recognition and the Voice is consistent with our company’s values and our commitments in our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to raise awareness, understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, heritage and history across our business and in the communities in which we work.
Over our 30 years of business, we have worked closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through our cultural heritage and social impact services. Through our work we have experience of the history and heritage of our country and of the impacts of discrimination on the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Umwelt’s Managing Director, Barbara Crossley, believes it is important we send a positive message to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities that we support constitutional recognition and the right to be heard.
Barb is keen to ensure that our people have access to quality information about the Referendum and the Voice, so that we can all make an informed vote in this important decision for all Australians. For several months, our Umwelt Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Working Group has shared information with our national team about the RAP, the Uluru Statement from the Heart, the Referendum and the Voice via our internal resources hub and in our monthly “all of team” gatherings.
