Palmer Wind Farm
CLIENT: Tilt Renewables
SECTOR: Renewables
REGION: Eastern Hills, South Australia
Upon completion, the Palmer Wind Farm Project is expected to generate up to 288MW of clean energy, enough to power approximately 144,000 South Australian homes. The project previously obtained approval but has recently undergone design changes to reduce its environmental impact, including a reduction in the number of turbines from 103 to 40, as well as an increase in turbine height to maximise efficiency. These modifications are anticipated to decrease the project area by over 5,000 hectares, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable development and community engagement.
OUR INVOLVEMENT: Ecological surveys and assessment and preparation of approvals documentation.
Umwelt have supported Tilt Renewables through this complex project by providing a series of services including:
- Baseline flora and fauna surveys
- Targeted threatened species surveys
- Assessment of Threatened Ecological Communities
- Significant impact assessments for a variety of species and communities of conservation significance
- Preparation of approval documents under the PDI Act, EPBC Act and state Native Vegetation Act
- Representation at the Environment, Resources and Development Court
- Assisted with community engagement workshops
OUTCOME:
The thorough assessment undertaken by Umwelt and the commitment of the proponent to reduce the impact of the project has resulted in the project being one of the few wind farm projects not considered a controlled action under the EPBC Act.
